Remain In Mexico

The policy today for immigrants fleeing dangerous and violent countries in South and Central America or crossing  over from Mexico in search of work and better life, is to remain in Mexico and wait for asylum. Wait and remain in Mexico where there is no guarantee for shelter, safety or food or seized and put into unsanitary, overcrowded and inadequate holding cells in a country which sees you as a criminal, rapist or terrorist for a broken and mismanaged system to choose your number in the next lottery. Children accompany their parents on these treacherous journeys "al Norte" to the North take hold of their mother or father's hands and follow with open hearts and innocence. Sadly, some do not make it and those that do end up in filthy cages with no shoes (or shoes with laces removed in order to impede their running away) and given a concrete floor, small pad and thermal blanket for warmth. Is that the best we can do?
